UPDATED: Ferndale house a total loss after early morning fire

An early morning fire destroyed a residence in the 2300 block of Brown Road this morning. Fortunately, the owner-occupants were away at the time according to officials.

The 18-year-old single-story 2150-square-foot house located between Vista Drive and Malloy Road was fully involved when Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters arrived after being dispatched about 3:30am.

According to WCFD7 Assistant Fire Chief Dean Crosswhite, when the first firefighters arrived the structure was already a total loss. Crosswhite said they were able to contact the owners in Alaska and confirm no one was occupying the structure at the time of the fire.

A vehicle visible in the attached garage was also considered a total loss.

Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office investigators were at the scene of the fire this morning. The cause had not been determined as the investigation was just getting underway.
