FERNDALE, Wash. — Officials with Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) announced a change was in process at WCFD7 Station 41, located on Washington Street at Third Avenue in Ferndale.

Administration offices formerly located at Station 41 have moved to a new location. This was according to an announcement yesterday, February 13, 2026. This move was made to free up space for 24-hour staffing of emergency services personnel at the station.

The administration offices are now located a third of a mile to the south at 5616 Third Avenue. This was a former location of Whatcom Land Title Company and, before that, Unity Care.

According to WCFD7 Fire Commission meeting minutes, this is a key step in their capital facilities planning to modernize infrastructure and meet increasing call volumes.

Moving administrative staff out of Station 41 creates the necessary living quarters and operational space to house emergency response crews 24 hours a day. Response times are quicker from staffed stations. Firefighters and emergency medical personnel are onsite and ready. They do not need to respond to the station when dispatched.

Residents accustomed to visiting Station 41 for permits or inquiries will be redirected to the new administrative offices building location.

When Station 41 will be staffed 24/7, it will join 4 other fully staffed stations. This change will leave Station 44, at Grandview and Koehn Roads (Point Whitehorn), as the only remaining unstaffed station.

  • Station 42 at Brown and Kickerville Roads
  • Station 43 on Northwest Drive north of W Smith Road
  • Station 45 at Grandview and Enterprise Roads
  • Station 46 on Church Road south of Thornton Road.

Duh! They should ALL be staffed 24/7. Fires and other emergencies don’t observe normal workday schedules (in fact, they’re even somewhat more likely to occur at 3 AM!). And, yeah, 24/7 staffing will cost more money, so the People need to approve the taxes necessary to fund it (it’s utter stupidity not to!).
