The American Cheese Society’s 2017 national conference was held last week in Denver, Colorado. A local family-owned and -operated creamery came away with 3 awards from the conference.
Ferndale Farmstead, who began production two years ago at 2780 Aldergrove Road, came away with awards in the Mozzarella-type and Farmstead categories according the American Cheese Society’s website.
Ferndale Farmstead’s Scamorza was awarded 2nd Place in the Mozzarella-type category and their Asiago Pressa took 2nd Place and their Caciotta placed 3rd in the Farmstead category. This was their 2nd year of competing.
Awards were given from competition between 281 companies submitting 2,024 products.
According to the company website, the family purchased the dairy in Ferndale from the Larsen family in 2009, who had farmed there for three generations. They began building the creamery in 2013 and production began in 2015. Using only milk from their own cows, they specialize in heritage cheese using traditional Italian techniques.
Ferndale Farmstead products are available to be purchased at grocery stores and retailers.
