Ferndale car versus motorcycle crash sends 1 to the hospital with serious injuries

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 6100 block of Portal Way about 6:45pm on Sunday, April 14th, due to reports of a serious injury car vs motorcycle crash.

Ferndale Police told Whatcom News via email that the motorcyclist had been transported from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center for treatment of serious leg injuries.

According to the police investigation, a 2000 gray Mercury Sable was turning northbound on Portal Way from eastbound New Kirk Road waiting for a southbound motorcycle which slowed and turned into a nearby driveway. Not realizing a second motorcycle was behind the turning motorcycle, the Mercury entered the intersection. The second motorcycle, a 2005 black Harley Davidson XSTI, crashed into the front left corner of the Mercury and the motorcyclist was ejected.

The Mercury immediately pulled off the side of Portal Way.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Portal Way was closed for about an hour as a result of the crash.

Police say no charges or citations resulted from the incident and their investigation has been completed.
