A localized system moved through the area beginning about 5:30am and traffic impacts were continuing as of 7:30am.
School administrators said they canceled classes "to give our staff time and space to get in a better position to support our students when school resumes on Friday."
The first incident occurred Friday, resulting in charges against a student being forwarded to the Whatcom County Prosecutor's Office.
"Potential for gusts approaching 60mph on the outer coast and along the Whatcom/Skagit County coastline Saturday morning."
BPD officers responded to the school due to a report of someone being in possession of a gun.
The work is being done to repair and rebuild a section of the levee damaged during the recent high water events.
The school donated $2,500 worth of their earned Scholastic Dollars to Sumas Elementary.
County Public Works officials provided details regarding how and when repairs may happen for each.
