The high wind watch issued yesterday was upgraded to a high wind watch this afternoon, foretelling of wind gusts to 70mph.

Yesterday, Cerberus Capital Management, L.P., the lead of a group of investors who own the Albertsons Companies Inc. grocery chain, received clearance from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to bid on Haggen “core stores,” which includes the Ferndale Haggen location, according to The Wall Street Journal via The Daily Bankruptcy Review.

Yesterday’s windstorm was one for the ages. Wind gusts, including one recorded at 96mph in Ferndale, heavy rains just prior and high tides all combined to wreck havoc in various forms on the area.
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening.

They have been through this before and for more than a day but it still is an unhappy state for Ferndale businesses east of the Nooksack River who found their buildings dark this morning. Businesses west of the river are open and operating normally.
