Car versus pedestrian collision in Lynden sends 1 to the hospital and driver to jail

LYNDEN, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 6:45pm on April 15th to the intersection of Front Street and 7th Street in Lynden due to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Lynden Police Chief Steve Taylor said in an email to Whatcom News arriving officers found 2 pedestrians had been struck in the crosswalk by a 2021 Tesla. The pedestrians were determined to have been crossing Front Street when the Tesla turned onto westbound Front Street from 7th Street and knocked both pedestrians to the ground.

Lynden Fire Department Chief Mark Billmire told Whatcom News medical aid crews treated 2 patients at the scene. 1 had minor injuries and was treated and released and the other was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries via basic life support (BLS) protocol.

The victims were identified by Taylor as a male, age 67, and a female, age 70. Taylor said the female suffered multiple fractures, abrasions and contusions.

Taylor said police interviewed the Tesla driver who told them he had stopped at the intersection and never saw the pedestrians prior to the collision.

The driver, identified by Taylor as Jamie Vos, age 44, was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail by Lynden Police charged with suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular assault.
