Car versus bicyclist in Everson sends 1 to hospital

EVERSON, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Lindsay Road and Van Buren Road this morning, March 29th, about 7:30am due to a report of a vehicle versus bicycle crash.

Whatcom County Fire District 1 Division Chief Darren Branum said 1 patient was transported from the scene to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham by a medic unit with non-life-threatening injuries under advanced life support protocol (ALS).

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant said the bicycle collided with a 2010 Lexus sedan and the driver told the investigating troopers he did not see the bicyclist due to sun in his eyes at the time of the collision. The bicyclist was determined to have been legally riding in the roadway at the time.

The driver of the Lexus was issued an infraction for 2nd-degree negligent driving, Oliphant said.
