Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) announced today Route 65 will begin running from Ferndale to Birch Bay Square, Lynden, Everson and Nooksack and back on Monday, September 25.

WTA announced they were considering implementing the route this past spring.

Route 65 is a two-year pilot project, funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation. WTA says they pursued grant funding in response to requests for service from north county residents and community partners. Ridership during the pilot project will determine whether the route continues beyond September 2019.

The new route is scheduled to operate weekdays only, Monday through Friday, from 6:45am to 5:53pm. It has been designated a “Flex Route,” meaning that, in addition to stopping at fixed stops on a regular schedule, the bus can deviate off-route within a defined area to pick up riders who have made arrangements in advance. WTA operates several flex routes throughout Whatcom County and say they work well in rural areas, where riders typically live farther from the route.

Route and schedule details are available by calling 360-676-7433 or visiting the WTA website.
