Bellingham Police release details regarding attempted murder charge

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Bellingham woman, age 43, remains in custody charged with 1st-degree attempted murder following an incident on Saturday, May 16, 2026, that resulted in her and another person being transported to the hospital.

The Bellingham Police Department (BPD) provided Whatcom News with the details leading up to the arrest.

According to BPD, officers were dispatched due to a report of an aggravated assault. Officers arrived at the scene and were about to take the suspect into custody immediately without incident. Their investigation showed the suspect had made verbal threats to kill 2 persons and then cut 1 of those 2 with a knife and attempted to strangle them. The second person was able to get away uninjured and get assistance.

The person with the knife wounds required medical attention for their non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center. The suspect was also transported due to needing treatment for self-inflicted injuries.

As of May 18, 2026, Whatcom County Superior Court records do not indicate the suspect has been formally charged. Whatcom County Jail records indicate she remains in custody awaiting a preliminary hearing where bail, if any, could be set.
