Whatcom County Fire District 14 fire and aid crews were dispatched about 8:30pm last night, June 24th, to the scene of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash in the Maple Falls area in eastern Whatcom County.

According to a Washington State Patrol (WSP) press memo, the ATV struck a tree about 2 miles up an unimproved trail. The orange 2018 CFMoto ZForce ATV was being driven by James Michael Tabscott, age 34, of Ferndale, and Joshua L. Bell, age 31, of Maple Falls, was a passenger at the time of the crash.

Tabscott was treated for injuries and booked into the Whatcom County Jail for vehicular assault and Bell was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Neither man was wearing a helmet but they were wearing safety belts according to the WSP. WSP investigators cite driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as the cause of the crash.
