Winter weather advisory issued for Whatcom Cascades and beyond

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory at 10:30am on May 16, 2026, for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit Counties. The advisory remains in effect until 8am on May 17, 2026.

The advisory statement includes the following details.

  • snow showers are expected with total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches above 4,000 feet
  • higher snow amounts are possible in the high terrain
  • heavy showers are expected about this afternoon, with a potential for lighting and small hail
  • warm road temperatures may limit roadway accumulations, but temporary accumulations are possible during heavy snow showers

The advisory area covers the Cascades of Snohomish, King, Whatcom, Skagit, Pierce and Lewis Counties and the Olympics.
