This morning, forecasters with the National Weather Service Seattle office replaced a High Wind Watch issued yesterday with a Wind Advisory as they updated their forecast for a wind event expected to begin late this evening, Wednesday, January 2nd, and through tomorrow.
The revised forecast says to expect sustained southeast winds of 25 to 35mph with gusts to 50mph with the strongest winds along the coastline.
The Wind Advisory will be in effect between 10pm this evening and 7pm tomorrow. Forecasters said there remains a possibility of reissuing a High Wind Watch Thursday morning.
A Wind Advisory is issued when winds of at least 35mph are expected. A High Wind Watch is issued when sustained winds of at least 40mph, or gusts of 58mph or stronger may occur.
Today’s forecast calls for less powerful winds than were forecast yesterday. Yesterday’s forecast called for gusts around 60mph.
Winds will increase over the northwest interior and along the coast overnight but are expected to remain below the “high wind” criteria according to forecasters.
