There have been more than a couple neighbors asking about the loud “booms” and crackling noises as well as an out-of-the-ordinary siren tonight, October 17th. Here’s what we have been able to find out.

The booms and crackling sounds are emanating from fireworks being launched by the Washington Fireworks facility at the intersection of Haxton Way and Lummi Shore Drive. The Northwest Pyrotechnics Association is setting them off. Unclear if they are demoing new fireworks or practicing or ???.

Also, a siren or alarm was heard near or on the ground of the Phillips 66 refinery. No immediate information on that yet. An inquiry has been made. Will share if/when there is anything to share.

Update
Heard from the folks at Phillips 66 refinery. They’re still investigating why the siren went off. Turns out it stayed on for about 5 minutes before it was shut it off due to a stuck valve. This was a siren that some in the facility did not know existed and it was a surprise when it went off.
