WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — According to a press release from Whatcom County, the Whatcom County Council approved a $7.05 million contract with AidKit on August 11, 2026, to administer the Whatcom Kids First child care subsidy program.
The contract runs through 2028 and is funded by the Healthy Children’s Fund. According to county officials, the program is expected to assist at least 1,400 children in its first full year.
Families earning up to 75% of the State Median Income qualify for the program. For a family of 4, 75% of the State Median Income is currently about $105,543 annually.
Funding will be paid directly to licensed child care providers. AidKit will also assist eligible families in applying for the state Working Connections Child Care subsidy program.
According to Whatcom County Health and Community Services, application details for families and providers will be released in late 2026. Subsidy payments are expected to begin in February or March 2027.
AidKit was selected through a competitive bidding process.
