LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. — Officials with Whatcom County Public Works Ferry Division announced today, Thursday, March 28th, that the Whatcom Chief’s 2024 dry dock outage is scheduled from Saturday, May 18th through Saturday, June 15th.

The Whatcom Chief provides pedestrian and vehicle ferry service between Gooseberry Point and Lummi Island. During the annual dry dock period, ferry service switches to pedestrian-only vessel.

In a February announcement, officials said to expect the dry dock period to run between earlier dates but then were advised adjust to later dates in order to receive successful bids for the work.

The new confirmed dates will put the pedestrian-only service in place during the Memorial Day weekend, something officials had warned of.
