VIS Seafoods Recalls All Canned Salmon Products

vis seafoods logoVIS Seafoods in Bellingham Issued a voluntary recall yesterday, October 21st, on all of its canned salmon products due to health risk concerns.

According to a news release posted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on its website,

Vis Seafoods of Bellingham, WA is voluntarily recalling ALL canned salmon and smoked salmon with any codes starting with “OC” because it has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause life-threatening illness or death.  Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

As of the time of the news release, there had been no reported cases of illnesses. The voluntary recall came after the company was notified that the products were determined to be “possibly under-processed” during an FDA inspection.

All products would have been sold to consumers from the company’s retail store in Bellingham and to internet consumers from the website visseafoods.com.

The last date of distribution of recalled products was September 2015.  Affected production codes include any codes starting with “OC”.  The code can be found on either at the bottom or on top of the can.  Recalled products are packaged in metal cans with net weight 5.5 oz and 6.0 oz

Vis Seafoods is one of several companies who have issued voluntary recalls over the past ten days regarding products made by Skipanon Brand Seafoods LLC of Warrenton, Oregon.
