BELLINGHAM, Wash. — About 10:15pm last night, October 12th, first responders were dispatched to the 700 block of Lakeway Drive due to a report of a vehicle that had fallen onto the road from the I-5 overpass.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News that troopers at the scene determined a red 1999 Ford F250 pickup had been northbound on I-5 when it failed to negotiate a curve to the right and left the roadway into the median. It then returned onto the roadway, lost control and crossed both lanes, going into and over the guardrail, landing on the driver’s side on Lakeway Drive.
Harding said the driver was the only occupant and needed assistance to get out of the vehicle. The driver was transported in stable condition by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center and then to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
No charges are pending but the driver will be cited for driving with wheels off the roadway. Harding added driving under the influence was not suspected.
10 to12 guardrail posts along I-5 were damaged in the crash.
