The annual effort to stock the Ferndale Food Bank with turkeys for Thanksgiving is underway. Whatcom County Fire Protection District 7, in conjunction with the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce, is making it easy for everyone to help those who find themselves in need this year.
Every $10 in donations goes toward the purchase of a turkey. The goal is to raise $5000 this year, beating last year’s $4800 total amount raise. Ferndale Chamber Event and Program Coordinator Kelsey Rowlson said 435 turkeys had been pledged as of October 29th.
According to Food Bank Executive Director Suzanne Nevan, donations are also being accepted from businesses and faith communities for the “fixings” to go with the birds.
