Tuesday Windstorm Update

Ferndale appears to have so far weathered today’s windstorm quite well. But the National Weather Service warned the strongest winds can be expected in the afternoon and evening.

The winds began to pickup around 4:30am this morning, November 24th. while there were a couple gusts around 48 MPH recorded by a weather station near the high school about 10am, the majority of gusts have been in the 30 to 40 MPH range.

Recent windstorms, and Ferndale has had a few, have taken out many weak trees and branches but those storms have had winds from the south. It could be expected a windstorm with high winds from the north and northeast might find new targets.

While Puget Sound Energy is currently (about 1pm) reporting over a dozen power outages in Whatcom County, Ferndale has, so far, dodged getting hit. The exception is nearly 100 PSE customers near Sandy Point who were hit with an outage shortly after 11am.
