WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Officials with Washington State Department of Transportation announced today, May 6th, that the following work and corresponding traffic impacts are scheduled for next week in Whatcom County.
I-5
- Monday, May 9th
- From 8am to 3:30pm, the right lane of southbound I-5 between the Birch Bay-Lynden Road and Grandview Road interchanges will be closed to remove shoulder debris that accumulated during the winter.
- Tuesday, May 10th
- From 8am to 3:30pm, the right lane of southbound I-5 between Zell Road (milepost 268) and the Portal Way interchange will be closed to remove shoulder debris that accumulated during the winter.
- Tuesday, May 10th and Wednesday, May 11th
- From 10pm to 5am, both nights, the southbound I-5 off-ramp at Bakerview Road in Bellingham will be closed to complete permanent striping. This work is weather dependent. Motorists can exit and enter I-5 at the adjacent Slater Road and Northwest Avenue interchanges during the closure.
- Wednesday, May 11th
- From 8am to 3:30pm, the right lane of southbound I-5 from between the Portal Way and Main Street interchanges will be closed to remove shoulder debris that accumulated during the winter.
- Thursday, May 12th
- From 8am to 3:30pm, the passing (left) lane of southbound I-5 between the Portal Way and Slater Road interchanges will be closed to remove shoulder debris that accumulated during the winter.
Mount Baker Highway (SR542)
- Wednesday, May 11th
- From 9pm to 3pm, eastbound and westbound traffic on Mount Baker Highway (SR542) at the north fork of the Nooksack River (milepost 3.87) will alternate through a single lane for routine bridge maintenance.
W Bakerview Road
- Monday, May 9th through Thursday, May 12th
- From 8pm to 5am, a single lane in each direction of Bakerview Road will be closed to allow crews to finish work related to the northbound I-5 W Bakerview Road interchange improvements. This work is weather dependent.
Badger Road
- Monday, May 9th and Tuesday, May 10th
- From 9pm to 5am, eastbound and westbound traffic on Badger Road (SR546) at Double Ditch Road will alternate through a single lane while utility work is done.
