The crosswalk improvement project at Main Street and Sterling Avenue (by the public library – see map below) has been scheduled to begin this Tuesday, February 16th, according to the City.

During the project, which is expected to continue to mid-March, traffic on Main Street will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers alternating the traffic flow from 7am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. In addition, Sterling Avenue will be closed between Guinevere Street and Main Street for the duration of the project to reduce traffic volume through the work zone.

The completed project will provide for a crosswalk with manually activated lights (beacons) and a refuge island in the middle. Pedestrians will be able to activate the flashing lights to alert vehicles of their presence in the crosswalk.
