UPDATED: TRAFFIC ALERT: Main Street overpass at I-5 blocked by multi-vehicle crash

Whatcom County Fire District 7 aid units and Ferndale Police responded to a 4-vehicle crash on the Main Street overpass at I-5 about 1:45pm today.

Emergency radio transmissions indicated the crash scene was blocking traffic. WSDOT cameras at the scene indicated only one lane was open.

As of 2pm, traffic was backing up in both directions while police at the scene worked to alternate the flow of traffic through the one available lane while waiting for tow trucks to arrive.

It would be advisable to detour via LaBounty Drive and W Smith Road to cross I-5 until the scene can be cleared and the lane reopened.

The crash scene has been cleared and the lanes in both directions have been reopened.
