Ferndale Public Works crews got a rude awakening this morning when the water system indicated a leak somewhere. After getting everyone out looking, even the police, the leak was located on the east side of Hovander Road (see map below).
Apparently a heavy truck turned the corner too tightly and its tires (and weight) went off the side of the road over where the water main is buried and broke the line.
Once the break was located, it took crews a couple hours to uncover, fix and rebury the pipe and restore service to those affected. In the mean time, runners participating in the Feed the Need 5k Walk/Run made the project zone all the more interesting.
