About 10am this morning, 911 dispatchers said they had received numerous reports of a person in the water by the Main Street (aka Pioneer Bridge). Law enforcement and fire/aid units were dispatched.
The subject was able to exit the river on the west bank below Centennial Riverside Park. They were treated by aid crews and transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries according to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko.
Ferndale Police Lieutenant Bill Hatchett said while the subject likely leapt into the river from the bridge, police were unable to locate anyone who actually saw them go into the river.
No further information is available due to privacy laws.
At the time, the Nooksack River level at Ferndale was past the 17-foot mark and flowing swiftly.
