BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the southbound lanes of I-5 near the Ohio Street on-ramp about 1:30pm this afternoon, October 14th.
This has been reported by Washington State Patrol (WSP) to be a 4-car crash involving a dump truck. A smaller red car was entering the freeway at Iowa Street when it lost control and rotated sideways. A Chevrolet Equinox, Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) passenger van and a dump truck with trailer in the mainline lanes were unable to avoid colliding with the smaller car. The Chevrolet ended up on its side as a result of the collisions.
WSP Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News the drivers were the only occupants and suffered only minor injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.
As of 1:55pm, southbound traffic was backed up about 2.5 miles to the Meridian Street interchange.
As of 2:25pm, both lanes had been reopened.
