One accident today, December 17th, can be at least partially blamed on the slick roads caused by today’s snowfall.

While precipitation was taking the form of mostly rain in the low lying areas such as downtown, in the higher elevations such as Thornton Street at Vista Drive and at Church Road it has been coming down as snow and accumulating as slush on the road surfaces.

One vehicle ended up off the road facing southbound on Church Road just past Heights Drive. The vehicle’s tracks in the snow indicate it jumped the curb, took out some mailboxes and broke through a wood fence before coming to a stop.

The temperature in Ferndale has dropped five degrees since 9am bringing it close to or below freezing in many places around Ferndale. Expect winter driving conditions especially in the higher areas where it has been snowing most of the day. If the temperature continues to drop, wet roadways could become icy. Drivers are advised to be alert and monitor the road conditions as they can change rapidly.
