Sinkhole closes Whatcom County road for a month or more

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — A recently discovered sinkhole in the 8700 block of Weidkamp Road is the reason for closing the road in both directions until repairs can be made. The closure is between West Badger and Loomis Trail Roads.

Whatcom County Public Works Spokesperson Marie Duckworth told Whatcom News repairs on Weidkamp Road are currently planned for late August or early September. When asked about the cause, she said they did not want to speculate.

Duckworth also said West Shore Drive on Lummi Island remains closed after a sinkhole was discovered there back in May. She expected to be able to announce an update to the repair schedule for that section of road soon.
