WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Officials with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Whatcom County Public Works (WCPW) have announced scheduled road work projects scheduled that are expected to result in significant traffic impacts this week.
I-5
From 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 northbound I-5 between State Route 542/Sunset Drive (milepost 255) and Northwest Avenue (milepost 257) will be FULLY CLOSED for paving.
Nightly, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Sunday, Aug. 17 to the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 20 the right lane on southbound I-5 between just south of the State Route 543 Truck Route (milepost 274) and the Nooksack River Bridge (milepost 263) will close for a paving project. On Monday and Tuesday nights, the southbound I-5 off-ramp to Portal Way (Exit 263) and the Portal Way on-ramp to southbound I-5 will also close.
Nightly, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Aug. 20 to the morning of Friday, Aug. 22 the left lane on southbound I-5 between just south of the State Route 543 Truck Route (milepost 274) and Custer School Road (milepost 268) will close for a paving project.

Pole Road (SR544)
From 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 to 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 both directions of State Route 544/East Pole Road at Hannegan Road (milepost 2) will alternate traffic through a single lane with flaggers on site for Ziply work.

Valley Highway (SR9)
From 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 both directions of State Route 9 between Potter Road (milepost 77) and Rutsatz Road (milepost 78) will alternate traffic through a single lane with flaggers on site for maintenance work.

Hannegan Road
Crews will complete a temporary repair on Hannegan Road Bridge #252 near the Lynden city limits on Wednesday, August 20.
From 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the northbound lane will be closed. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the work zone.
Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic. Drivers should expect delays, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes when possible. Please remember to slow down in work zones and follow all directions from traffic control personnel.
