Searchers locate body of missing Bellingham man in Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office announced today, Saturday, July 11, 2026, that the body of a missing hiker had been located.

On the afternoon of July 11, 2026, the body of Steven Dorsett was recovered in the National Forest.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the many agencies and volunteers who assisted throughout this operation and recovery efforts, including Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Whatcom County Search and Rescue, Whatcom SAR 4X4, Cristina Woodworth with Okanogan County Search and Rescue, Bellingham Mountain Rescue, Everett Mountain Rescue, Skagit County Search and Rescue, the National Park Rangers, Snohomish County Helicopter Rescue Team, and the Snohomish County Swift Water team. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and support during this operation.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Steven’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

The hiker had been missing since failing to return from a hiking trip on June 24, 2026. At the time, his last known location was the Canyon Creek Trailhead.
