Project hopes to end flooding at bottom of Iowa Street off-ramps

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — According to the City of Bellingham, a project to improve drainage on Iowa Street will begin soon.

Work will begin on Monday, July 13, 2026. Crews will perform night work around the southbound I-5 off-ramp at Ohio Street and along Lincoln Street between Kentucky Street and Ohio Street. The 1st phase of the project will repair stormwater lines.

Detours and road closures will occur at night for about 2 weeks, according to the City of Bellingham. Phase 1 focuses on the west side of I-5.

Phase 2 will address the east side of I-5 and is scheduled to begin in 1 or 2 years.
