FERNDALE, Wash. — A vehicle reported to have been swerving between lanes while northbound on I-5 was involved in a single-vehicle rollover crash between the W Smith Road overpass and the Main Street interchange in Ferndale about 9:30am, Monday, June 20th.

Approximate location of the crash

According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Justin Iverson medical crews transported the driver from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center via a medic unit under advanced life support (ALS) protocols.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Jacob Kennett told Whatcom News that dispatchers had received calls from citizens reporting a blue Jeep Liberty SUV was driving erratically in the northbound lanes and about 10 minutes later dispatchers received reports that the vehicle had crashed.

According to WSP troopers’ investigation, the Jeep was in the left lane when it collided with semi-truck and left the roadway into the media. Kennett said the driver was transported by ambulance with minor injuries. No criminal charges were pending.

Northbound traffic through the crash scene was limited to a single lane until about 10:15am. Southbound traffic continued to be limited to a single lane until 10:30am while the vehicle was retrieved from the median.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
