National Weather Service Seattle office forecasters say they expect the Nooksack River to crest later today in the Ferndale area at about the 15-foot mark. This is a reduction from earlier forecasts that had it cresting closer to the 18-foot mark.
The river is expected to crest mid-afternoon today.
While short of the 18-foot minimum needed to be officially considered within the minor flood range, some impacts have occurred in the past when the river reached the 15-foot mark. They include.
- Water over the roadway on Ferndale Road, north of Marine Drive and also north of Slater Road
- Water over the roadway at the corner of Barrett and Paradise Roads
- Flooding of the WDFW parking lot on Marine Drive
- Water over the roadway at corner of Marine Drive south of Country Lane
Depending upon the amount of water on the roadways, closures of some impacted roads may occur.
As of 6am this morning, Marine Road remained closed between Ferndale Road and Lummi Shore Road/Drive due to the river level rising Friday.
