River level has nearly doubled over the past few days

Yesterday’s storm system lost a lot of its punch and veered east before hitting our area which meant it was limited to 2 or 3 thunderclaps and localized squalls. But the mountains got it much worse including much more rain.

Recent rains and spring snow melt in the mountains are contributing to increases in the Nooksack River level downstream in Ferndale. But the US Geological Survey forecasts the river will remain below even the minor flood level.

According to the river level forecast for Ferndale, the river is expected to crest just over 14 feet this evening about midnight.
