An open house will be held at Firehouse #41 at 2020 Washington Street Friday, June 30th from 1pm to 3pm to honor Chief Gary Russell on the eve of his retirement.
Russell joined WCFD7 as a volunteer in 1973. He then became Assistant Fire Chief in 1983 and later became Fire Chief in 1986.
Russell has served with Whatcom Fire District 7 for 44 years. Earlier this year, he announced he will begin retirement July 1st.
The public is invited to attend. There will be an open house format with a ceremony at 2pm according district officials.
Since January, Russell has been transitioning his responsibilities to Assistant Fire Chief Larry Hoffman. Hoffman will assume the title of Fire Chief in July.
