Power pole fire results in temporarily closing Valley Highway (SR9)

WICKERSHAM, Wash. — Firefighters from Whatcom County Fire District 16 were wrapping up after knocking down a vehicle fire that spread to a nearby shed in Acme when they received a call at 7:50am today, November 12th, about a power pole on fire about 2 miles to the south on Valley Highway

WCFD16 Fire Chief Hank Maleng told Whatcom News they arrived to find a power pole on fire.

After extinguishing the fire, it was determined the power lines were hanging dangerously low over the road so Valley Highway (SR9) was closed to all traffic until a Puget Sound Energy crew could make repairs.

As of 8:20am, there was no estimate for when the road would be reopened.
