This is a continuation of yesterday’s story
Ferndale Police were again called to the BNSF bridge over the Nooksack River about 5pm today after a report of juveniles trespassing on the railroad bridge had been called to 911.
After dispatch notified BNSF of the situation so train traffic in the area could be stopped, a Ferndale Police officer made his way across the bridge to the center. Witnesses reported seeing smoke coming from the turnstile compartment shortly after the juveniles had climbed into it. It was there the FPD officer found two juveniles hiding and escorted them off the bridge back to their bicycles so train traffic could be safely resumed.
The two juveniles had a serious, mostly one-way, conversation with the FPD officers before being allowed to head home to consider the consequences of their choices.
It was determined from witness photos these two had been part of the group seen on the bridge Friday.
It bears repeating, the average trespassing fine, according to BNSF officials, is $500 and accidents involving trespassers do happen. These accidents involving trespassers resulted in fatalities nearly 30 times last year.
