Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies resorted to using the PIT maneuver to quickly bring to an end a pursuit this evening.
This evening about 7:30pm, a WCSO deputy driving on Enterprise Road recognized a subject with warrants attempted to pull him over. Instead of complying, the subject took off at a high rate of speed in their vehicle.
The pursuit headed south on Enterprise Road and east onto Harksell Road. From there the subject turned south onto Dahlberg Road and was successfully ‘PIT-ed’ just south of the S-curves prior to reaching Grandview Road in the 6500 block of Dahlberg Road.
According to a deputy on the scene, the subject was on his way to be booked at the Whatcom County Jail.
The subject vehicle crashed into a power pole splintering it. Puget Sound Energy crews were on the scene to replace the pole but no power outage was reported.
UPDATE: 6/18/16
The subject booked into the Whatcom County Jail was Jesse Lee Witteveen, age 31, of Bellingham. Charges booked for were attempting to elude a police vehicle, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and bail jumping.
Court records indicate Witteveen was out on a $25,000 bond for previous drug-related charges filed back in February after Witteveen was charged with selling methamphetamine to undercover officers. But in May, Witteveen failed to appear at a hearing which caused a bench warrant to be issued for him and forfeiture of the bond.
As of the writing of this update, Witteveen remained in custody according to jail records.
