According a news release from Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks, after 12pm today, October 26th, deputies were pursuing a stolen vehicle from Bellingham down West Smith Road from the Guide Meridian. But when speeds got to 80 MPH and the driver was being erratic, the chase was called off.
Soon after, deputies located the vehicle driving slower on West Smith Road near Northwest Drive and were able to execute a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the vehicle and take the driver into custody without further incident. He appeared to be high on Methamphetamine.
According to the news release, Darren A. Nixon was booked for vehicle theft, attempting to elude law enforcement and driving while license suspended. Nixon had been arrested and booked by Bellingham Police on October 9th for vehicle prowl and possession of controlled substance. He was sentenced to 15 days in jail and released on October 21, 2015.
