WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 3:35am on Friday, May 10th, to the 5000 block of Guide Meridian (SR539) due to a report of a car versus pedestrian incident.
As of 6am, all lanes in both directions were closed between Axton and Kelly Roads.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News the pedestrian involved was declared deceased at the scene and no charges appeared pending.
The lanes were reopened about 7am.
A Washington State Patrol press memo said a 2019 Chevrolet Express van was southbound in the right lane on Guide Meridian when it struck the pedestrian who was standing in the lane. Neither alcohol nor drugs were determined to be involved.
The pedestrian was identified by WSP as a 31-year-old Seattle woman. This was later corrected, and the pedestrian was identified as a 24-year-old Lynden woman.
