I am writing in support of Sharon Shewmake for Washington State House of Representatives, Position 2.
After volunteering in Sharon’s successful 2018 campaign, I have gotten to know her well. As a School Board Director in Ferndale School District, I’ve had many conversations with her on how Washington State funds K-12 education. She is an ally to our students, and always receptive to ideas to increase equity in education.
Sharon is approachable, to all her constituents. She listens to what you have to say and engages in conversation. Sometimes she agrees with you, and brainstorms with you on ways to get things done in Olympia. Sometimes she sees potential obstacles, and takes the time to discuss other approaches, or talk about the data that supports a different point of view. And if she disagrees, she still listens, and looks for common ground. Sharon listens to the people—she believes in elections as a people-driven enterprise which is why she doesn’t take money from corporations.
I appreciate Sharon for her data-driven approach to policy making. She is the only PhD trained economist in the legislature. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, everyone wants to see our economy rebound and an economist as our elected official will be our best bet. We need a representative in Olympia who knows how to interpret the information that research produces. Sharon will apply it in ways that keep Whatcom families and businesses strong and healthy.
Vote for Sharon Shewmake for Washington State House of Representatives. We couldn’t have a better Representative for Whatcom County in Olympia.
