LYNDEN, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 1pm on Wednesday, April 12th, to the W Bakerview Road overpass due to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.
According to a press release from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the pedestrian was in a wheelchair and an off duty CBP officer and an off duty firefighter were among the first at the scene.
According to the press release, the victim was found bleeding profusely from their right leg. The CBP officer got the individual out of the wheelchair and on to the ground where he elevated her leg.
The off duty firefighter and the officer agreed that a tourniquet was needed and they used a belt as the tourniquet. They continued to render aid until Bellingham Police and Fire personnel arrived.
The victim was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center by a medic unit according to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system.
