Obituary: Winfred L. Wilson

Winfred L. Wilson

Win passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Lynden, WA. He was born June 3, 1930 in Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri, to George Earl Wilson and Margaret Matilda Weis, the youngest of five children. They settled in Tracy, California where Win attended Tracy High School, graduating in 1947.

Win went to work in San Francisco, CA, and was soon drafted to serve in the US Army. He attended boot camp at Camp Roberts, California and then attended Officers Candidate School at Ft. Belvoir, Washington DC, prior to serving in Korea as a platoon leader, Second Lieutenant with B Company, for the 1092nd Engineering Combat Battalion.

In 1951, he met and married Hermine Albert. Win and Hermine had two children, Rebecca and Cynthia. Win married Edna Amundson Fisk in 1963. He was a long time resident of Custer, Washington.

Win enjoyed fishing, hunting, outdoor activities and their dogs and cats, especially his cat “Sam”. He and Edna traveled to Alaska, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Austria and Germany together. Win worked as a carpenter in the construction industry. He retired but kept active in the Custer community and the Bellingham Sons of Norway. He was a member of VFW and Moose Lodge.

Win was predeceased by his wife Edna and his four brothers, Hilton, Donald, Bill (“Hop”) and Edgar Wilson. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Kim) Wright and Cynthia (Gary) Rowe; grandsons, Andrew Rowe (Patricia Abaroa), Gabe Rowe (Cheryl Crow) and Rob Ammeter, and granddaughters, Christina (Brady) Martin and Abby Rowe (Carlos Vallejo), 8 great grandchildren, one nephew and three nieces.

No service will be held. There will be a private family inurnment at Enterprise Cemetery, Ferndale, WA at a later date. The family wishes to thank not only the wonderful staff at Christian Health Care Center in Lynden and the loving care of Whatcom Hospice during Win’s last days, but the close neighbors in Custer who helped with his daily life while he was home, which would not have been possible without them.
