WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched 9:45am on Saturday, July 25, 2026, due to report of a single-vehicle crash in the area of Haxton Way and Boynton Road.
Initial reports from the scene were that there were 2 occupants in a van that had struck a power pole and live wires were lying across the van. Puget Sound Energy (PSE) was notified so power could be disabled in the area to allow safe access to the occupants.
PSE reports the outage, first reported at 9:55am, impacted 1,822 residential and commercial customer addresses. The estimate for restoring power as of 10:20am was 1pm. The accident is cited as the cause of the power outage.
As of 10:25am, northbound and southbound traffic was being diverted off Haxton Road around the crash scene via Robinson Road.
By 11:20am, the number impacted by the power outage was down to 18 addresses and they were located in the immediate area of the crash scene.
According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system, at least 1 patient was transported from the crash scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center in Bellingham via an ambulance.
