WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Officials with the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office announced today, August 26, 2026, announced the recount of Legislative District 42 State Senator contest is complete. The recount was necessary by law since 2 candidates were separated by 4 votes.
The hand count results were the same as the initial automated count.

The recount will be certified by the Whatcom County Canvassing Board at 9am on Monday, August 31, 2026.
As the count stands, Sheppard and Creydt will face off in the General Election in November.
