Officials from the National Weather Service Seattle spotted a layer of smoke in the atmosphere from Bellingham and to the north in satellite imaging today.

According to stories published by the Siberian Times, over 790,000 acres of forest land have burned. Much of the impacted land is unpopulated so firefighting in those areas is not being done.
The local air quality monitoring station located in Custer on Loomis Trail Road has reported air quality remained within the “GOOD” range on the WAQA scale (PDF file) as of 8pm today.
With smoke in the atmosphere, sunsets can be expected to appear more red and orange as other light waves are deflected by smoke particles.
