Within two days, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Ferndale Police Department put out separate calls to the community asking for assistance in identifying a person suspected of making purchases with stolen credit cards. That outreach paid off and the suspect is now in custody awaiting trial.
Early yesterday morning, according to jail logs, Shayla Marie Gee, age 22, was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on multiple charges. According to Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Jeff Parks, these charges stemmed from her use of stolen credit cards obtained from a car prowl in the county. “She is the subject of several investigations/charges from Whatcom/Ferndale/Bellingham,” according to Parks.
According to court documents, initial charges include unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance, 2nd degree identity theft, 2nd degree theft and two counts of 2nd degree possession of stolen property. Maximum penalties are 5 years and $10,000 for each charge.
Gee was already awaiting trial in Whatcom Superior Court on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (heroin).
Gee is currently being held in the Whatcom County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
