Northwest Drive crash sends driver to jail and passenger to Harborview Medical Center

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 10:45pm last night, March 5th, due to a report of a single vehicle crash in the area of the intersection of W Pole Road and Northwest Drive.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Rocky Oliphant said troopers were dispatched to the scene of the crash where a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze, westbound on W Pole Road, failed to stop for a stop sign at the end of the road at Northwest Drive and crashed into a parked International truck in a driveway on the far side of the intersection.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Justin Iverson said aid crews transported 1 patient with serious injuries under advanced life support (ALS) protocol to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center.

Oliphant said the passenger was ultimately transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.

The driver, identified by Oliphant as Roberto Mendoza Ailon, age 28, was booked into Whatcom County Jail this morning by WSP charged with suspicion of felony vehicular assault according to jail records.
