The Ferndale Arts Commission (FAC) recently completed another new mural in Ferndale. This one is located on the former Central City Water Association pump house and reservoir located at 5900 Church Road.

Guyan Cool, FAC member and Ferndale High School senior, was the artist behind the designs and layouts according to City of Ferndale Councilmember and Council Liaison to FAC Rebecca Xczar.

FAC member Colleen Harper was the coordinator and point-person for the 2-week painting project according to Xczar. A number of volunteers, including FHS high school students and community artists, chipped in to bring the murals to life. Painting was done over a couple weekends due to the weather and was completed September 2nd Xczar said.

Last summer, it was another of Cool’s designs that provided the basis for a mural located on the City of Ferndale reservoir at Thornton Street and Vista Drive.

Xczar says the mural-painting season has come to an end this year but one of the FAC’s focuses for next year is to get more murals downtown. FAC is interested in talking with downtown businesses and private property owners with mural-worthy structures and walls that could be painted next year. Councilmember Xczar is spearheading the Downtown Mural Project and can be reached at

The Ferndale Arts Commission is charged with enhancing the community by advising on public art and community aesthetic enhancement according to the City’s website.
