WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Whatcom County Fire District 14 (WCFD14) personnel were dispatched about 1:20pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026, to assist Whatcom County Sheriff’s Officer personnel with a rescue on Hannegan Pass Road (National Forest Service Road 32). The initial report was the vehicle was stuck in snow about 1/8 of a mile from Mount Baker Highway (SR542).

WCFD14 officials issued a statement that, with help from Whatcom Co Search & Rescue 4×4 Unit volunteers, they rescued a motorist who had been stranded on Hannegan Pass Road in his car for 2 days. “The motorist was not hurt, and in pretty good spirits for someone who had been in that situation. After making sure they were alright, we towed them back to pavement.”
